Our Story

Beams were the beginning, not the ceiling.

The Beam Shop exists because one house needed the warmth of heavy timber and could not carry the weight. What started as a workaround became a better way to build.

It started with a beam no one could deliver.

A major mountain remodel needed the warmth of heavy timber, but the structure could not carry the weight. The look was possible; the load was not. Every shop that quoted the job quoted around the problem.

We solved it instead: a real-timber skin around a hollow core, joined so tightly the corner seam disappears. The beam went in, the ceiling held, and the phone has not stopped since.

“The look was possible; the load was not. So we built the look.”

One craft became six.

The same clients who trusted us with their beams started asking about the rest of the room: the floor below, the doors between, the trim that ties it together.

Today the shop designs, builds, sources, and finishes beams, flooring, doors, ceilings, millwork, and specialty pieces to match, from one source and on one schedule, for the architects, designers, and builders behind the Blue Ridge’s most ambitious projects.

The standard behind the shop.

This shop is run by people who spent their working lives on your side of the table: reading the sets, holding the schedule, and answering for the finished room. The habit that formed there still runs the place: you get one chance to do a thing the best way, and it is the first time.

“Good enough, isn’t.”

Built to the drawing

We work the way your projects do: from drawing sets, with every beam specified side by side for your team to approve.

One shop, one schedule

Six crafts under one roof means finishes match and deliveries land together, without chasing five vendors or refereeing their schedules.

Rooted in Brevard

The shop is on Greenville Highway in Brevard, North Carolina, and everything we make and source is chosen for the mountains around it.

Now, about your project.

Tell us about the project and we will take it from there. Bring us in early and we will handle the woodwork, from budget to delivery.
